Chris Graham

courts-newVirginia State Police has charged a Charlottesville woman with one count of embezzlement. Dayna T. Awkard, 43, turned herself in to state police Thursday morning (June 5, 2014) after an Albemarle County grand jury handed up an indictment for embezzlement. Awkard was released on her own recognizance.

At the request of the Virginia Auditor of Public Accounts (APA), the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Appomattox Field Office initiated in March 2014 a criminal investigation into an allegation made against Awkard. The focus of the investigation was the embezzlement of funds from the Albemarle County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office during the years of Awkard’s employment.
