Candidate Forum 2012: What would you ask?

Chris Graham

Staunton and Waynesboro City Council candidates will respond to a series of citizen questions pertaining to city-wide topics and senior issues at two upcoming public forums.

Questions will be developed based on submissions from local citizens interested in what’s affecting area public safety, health, housing, transportation and more. When new and incumbent Council members face cutbacks and other influences on the local way of life, it will be essential that they understand the needs and concerns of their constituents.

NBC 29 and Valley Program for Aging Services (VPAS) will host the following candidates’ forums:

Waynesboro

Wednesday, April 25 at 1 pm

Waynesboro Senior Center

325 Pine Avenue

540-942-1838

waynesboroseniorcenter.org

Staunton

Thursday, April 26 at 1 pm

Staunton Senior Center

300 Churchville Ave., Ste. 63

540-886-4634

stauntonseniorcenter.org

Both events will be moderated by Ken Slack of NBC 29. Candidates will take turns responding to a variety of relevant and thoughtful questions, some with an emphasis on senior issues. These unique forums will allow the candidates to share their viewpoints and knowledgebase on critical issues facing each community.

VPAS and NBC 29 encourage citizens to submit questions for the candidates. The questions posed at each event will be based on questions, concerns and ideas from the public. Questions may be submitted online at either senior center website, www.vpasaugusta.org, by phone, by mail or at either senior center no later than April 16.

Complimentary refreshments will be served. Both events are open to the public and to members of the media.

I’m totally on the side of Dianna Russini in this generated controversy over her being caught holding hands, hugging and lounging in a hot tub with New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel. Seriously, what sportswriter isn’t holding hands, hugging and lounging in hot tubs with coaches they cover? Just last week, for instance, Ryan Odom,...
