policeThe Augusta County Sheriff’s Office is warning local residents about a police impersonator operating in the area.

On Monday, the sheriff’s office took a report for an impersonation.  A stocky white male, described as being approximately six feet tall and bald, showed up at a residence on Tomahawk Court in Stuarts Draft, on Sunday between noon and 2 p.m. purporting to be a sergeant with an unknown sheriff’s office.  He was wearing a firearm and a displaying a gold badge.

The unknown man was in the company of a slender white female with long brown hair, approximately 5’8″, wearing a gray women’s business suit who claimed to be a CPS worker. They arrived in a brown-colored car (no further description available).

The two asked, by name, for an acquaintance of the homeowner and subsequently searched the home with the owner’s permission. No member of the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office or the Shenandoah Valley Department of Social Services were at the home during the incident, nor were any other local law enforcement agencies.

Further investigation suggests that this is likely domestic-related.

If any members of the community have any information related to this incident, contact the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office at 540-245-5333 or Crimestoppers at 800-322-2017.
