Augusta County Sheriff pleads for help identifying shooter in road-rage incident

The incident occurred in Greenville near the Loves Truck Stop.

The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office has requested additional local and State Police agencies provide assistance in the investigation.

Due to the seriousness of the injuries sustained by the victim, ASCO is continuing to devote “an enormous amount of time and resources to identify the other party,” according to a news release from Sheriff Donald Smith.

As a result, the public can expect to see increased law enforcement activity in the Greenville area for the foreseeable future as the investigation continues.

ASCO has changed the description of the suspect’s vehicle and are now looking for the driver of a four-door white or light-colored pickup truck with dark rims and tires.

The truck was traveling south on Route 11 just moments before the shooting occurred.

Investigators acknowledge this is a common vehicle in Augusta County, but investigators believe that the family and friends of the other person involved may have important information.

“Investigators know that there are often competing versions of events, especially surrounding road rage incidents on our highways,” said Smith. “Whether this act was maliciously done without provocation or an act of self-defense, the other person needs to contact the Sheriff’s Office.

“While investigators are making progress in narrowing down this investigation, the more time that passes, the more complicated the situation will be for the other involved person.”
