A 4-month-old baby is dead after being struck by a vehicle as a group of six pedestrians attempted to cross Stony Point Road in Albemarle County last week.

Six pedestrians were attempting to cross the road near Riverside Shops Way on Oct. 24 at approximately 7 p.m.

A sedan traveling south struck four of the pedestrians: the 4-month-old child, a 38-year-old woman, a 3-year-old child and a 1-year-old child.

The 38-year-old woman was transported to the University of Virginia Medical Center in serious condition. All three of the children struck, including the baby that died, were transported to UVA with life-threatening injuries sustained during the crash. The 4-month-old baby died on Wednesday.

Two other pedestrians, both juveniles, were not struck by the vehicle and did not require medical attention.

The driver of the sedan remained on scene and was not injured in the crash. No names have been released in the accident.

The Albemarle County Police Department and Albemarle County Fire Rescue responded to the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the ACPD crash reconstruction team.

The Albemarle County Police Department is asking for witnesses to the crash to contact ACPD’s traffic unit at (434) 296-5807 or, for those who wish to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at (434) 977-4000 or [email protected].
