uva-logo-new2ACC champion UVa. (28-6), making its 18th NCAA Tournament appearance, is the No. 1 seed in the East Region. The Cavaliers will face No. 16 seed Coastal Carolina (21-12) in an NCAA Tournament second-round game played in Raleigh, N.C., at PNC Arena on Friday, March 21.

The winner of the Virginia-Coastal Carolina game will meet No. 8 seed Memphis (23-9) or No. 9 seed George Washington (24-8) in the third round on Sunday, March 23.

The other pod of teams competing in Raleigh include teams from the Midwest Region. Those games are No. 3 seed Duke vs. No. 14 seed Mercer and No. 6 seed Massachusetts vs. No. 11 seed Iowa or Tennessee.

Virginia is making its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2012, when the Cavaliers played Florida in a second round game in Omaha, Neb. UVa was a No. 10 seed that season and lost 71-45 to the No. 7 seed Gators.

This is Virginia’s second NCAA Tournament appearance under 2014 ACC Coach of the Year Tony Bennett. The Cavaliers have compiled an all-time record of 22-17 in 17 NCAA tournaments. UVa advanced to the NCAA Final Four in 1981 and 1984. It’s the fourth time Virginia has been a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Ticket Information

The NCAA provides a limited number of tickets to schools participating in the NCAA Tournament second and third rounds. Ticket demand is expected to be extremely high for the games played in Raleigh. As a result, ticket requests are only open to Virginia Athletics Foundation donors in the Orange & Blue Club level and above for tickets in Virginia’s block. The Virginia athletics department anticipates being able to fulfill requests from approximately 100 account holders for tickets in UVa’s seating block for the games in Raleigh.

VAF Donors at the Orange & Blue Club level and above may request NCAA Tournament second and third round game tickets online at VirginiaSports.com beginning at 9 p.m. on Sunday, March 16 using their registered online account. Tickets may also be requested by calling 1-800-542-8821 on Monday, March 17 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. The deadline to request tickets is Monday, March 17 at 2 p.m. Requests will be filled according to Virginia Athletics Foundation priority points order. Account holders who receive tickets will be notified by email Monday night with information about the location and hours to pick up tickets in Raleigh.

Tickets outside of Virginia’s seating block at PNC Arena may be available to purchase through the arena box office.  Click here http://ev10.evenue.net/cgibin/ncommerce3/SEGetEventList?groupCode=NCAA14&linkID=ncsu&shopperContext=&caller=&appCode=&format=grpMenu to review ticket availability and to purchase tickets.

UVa students may request tickets for NCAA Tournament second and third round games online at UVaShots.com. The online request period will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, March 17 and will run until 2 p.m. on Monday, March 17.  Students awarded a ticket will be notified by email by 4 p.m. on Monday, March 17. Payment will be for one ticket for both the second and third round games. Students will only receive a ticket to the third round if Virginia wins its game in the preceding round. If Virginia does not advance to the third round, refunds for those tickets will be issued to a student’s credit card in a timely manner. Student orders will be limited to one ticket per student.
