Bridgewater starter Robert Gallet and Builders starter Daniel Lutz were hooked up in a strong pitcher’s duel early in the game.
The Eagles posted a run in the first to take a quick lead. Bryan Sanderson singled to lead off the inning and took second on Devon Snow‘s sacrifice bunt. Jonathan Mason then delivered a run-scoring single to score Sanderson for a 1-0 lead.
The Eagles added a pair of unearned runs in the fifth to lead 3-0. Ryan Smith was hit by a pitch and Darren Yoder singled. Smith and Yoder advanced when the outfielder misplayed Yoder’s hit, putting runners at second and third with one out. Smith scored on a passed ball and Yoder scored on a single by Sanderson, making the score 3-0.
After the Builders nicked Gallet for a r run in the bottom of the fifth, Bridgewater added three more runs in the sixth to open up some breathing room. With one out, Alex Nuttycombe doubled to left. Nuttycombe scored on a single by Ryan Smith to make it 4-0. Smith then scored on a double by Yoder for a 5-0 BC lead. Yoder stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Sanderson, making the score 6-0.
The Eagles blew the game open with a six-run seventh inning. Smith drove in the first two runs of the inning with a bases-loaded single, making the score 8-1. The Eagles took advantage of a bases-loaded walk, a wild pitch, a passed ball and two errors to plate four more runs to take a 12-1 lead.
Bridgewater scored its final run on back-to-back doubles by Smith and Yoder.
Gallet turned in his second strong start of the season. He worked seven innings and allowed seven hits and one run. He did not strike out a batter and walked just one.
Yoder hit a big day at the plate with a 4-for-5 effort. He scored three times and drove home two runs. Smith was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and four runs scored while Sanderson was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs.
