Today Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam attended the inaugural meeting of the Climate Change and Resiliency Update Commission, of which he is a member. The Commission was created by Governor McAuliffe in July via Executive Order.
“As a native of the Eastern Shore, my concerns for the environment, and the Chesapeake Bay in particular, were a significant part of my motivation to get involved in public policy-making. As a Senator, I carried legislation to create the Coastal Flooding Working Group to study the effects of climate change on Virginia’s coastal communities. I am grateful that Virginia’s response to sea-level rise is a priority for this administration, and am looking forward working with other members of the Commission to provide the Governor with meaningful recommendations.”
The Commission is charged with reviewing, updating, and prioritizing the recommendations of the 2008 Climate Change Action Plan created by Governor Kaine’s Commission on Climate Change and will submit a report to the Governor in June 2015.
