The Trump-MAGA Republican Medicare cuts have 10 Virginia hospitals at risk of closure, according to a new report from the nonpartisan group Public Citizen.

- Buchanan General Hospital (Grundy)
- Carilion Tazewell Community Hospital (Tazewell)
- Dickenson Community Hospital (Clintwood)
- Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital (South Boston)
- Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center (Woodbridge)
- Southside Community Hospital (Farmville)
- Twin County Regional Hospital (Galax)
- VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital (South Hill)
- VCU Health Tappahannock Hospital (Tappahannock)
Our local MAGA congressmen – John McGuire (Fifth District), Ben Cline (Sixth District) and Morgan Griffith (Ninth) – all voted for the horribly named One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which will cut $911 billion in federal spending on Medicaid and CHIP over the next 10 years, according to estimates from the Congressional Budget Office.
Cline is working hard, and spending lots of dark money, to protect his job from redistricting.
Griffith would represent a portion of Augusta County when the redistricting goes through following the April 21 referendum.
“From Southwest to Northern Virginia, hospitals across the Commonwealth are now at risk of closure because of Republicans’ tax giveaway bill for the ultra-wealthy,” U.S. Sens. Tim Kaine and Mark Warner, both D-Va., said in a joint statement. “While the rich got trillions in tax breaks, hard-working Virginians are left paying the price. This latest report shows just how cruel and reckless this law is. Virginians, and Americans across the country, deserve reliable access to affordable, quality care.”
Centra Southside Community Hospital in Farmville has already been forced to close labor and delivery and OBGYN surgical services, as well as outpatient care with its affiliated women’s center, because the hospital, “like other rural healthcare providers, must adapt to significant financial and operational challenges, including recently enacted reductions in federal healthcare funding.”
