VCU broke open a close game on either side of the halftime buzzer, withstood a second-half Virginia Tech rally, and went on to an 86-68 win over the Hokies on Friday to cap a 2-1 week at the Battle 4 Atlantis.

The Rams (5-3) got a career-high 21 points from sophomore guard Terrence Hill Jr. (6-of-7 FG, 5-of-5 3FG).

VCU, which had defeated South Florida, 78-66, on Wednesday, then lost to #24 Vanderbilt, 89-74, on Thursday, shot 52.6 percent from the floor and was 11-of-21 from three in the win.

Virginia Tech (6-2), which finished its week at the tourney with a 1-2 mark, got 16 points from two guys, Amani Hansberry and Tyler Johnson.

Tech opened the week with a 66-64 win over Colorado State, then dropped into the consolation bracket with a 77-66 loss to Saint Mary’s on Thursday.
