As Waynesboro crafts its comprehensive plan for the next 20 years, the city is working to engage residents and property owners in the process.

The next opportunity for the public to weigh in comes on Nov. 19, when the city will host a community open house with informational posters and interactive stations for its “Waynesboro Together” initiative.

Residents, business and property owners and other stakeholders are encouraged to drop in to the event at Waynesboro High School any time between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Participants will have the opportunity to offer feedback on goal statements produced during an open house this summer and brainstorm ideas for the city’s future including development.

A 65-page engagement report was shared with Waynesboro City Council in September.

Among the recurring themes:

  • Proper homeless shelter needed, not churches
  • More low-cost housing needed for renters and first-time homebuyers
  • Need to keep small-town feel
  • New buildings should blend with existing style
  • Need to improve walkability
  • Greenway is universally loved by community

The project timeline spans approximately two years, concluding in early 2027.
