The signal, located about halfway between Winchester and Stephens City, is scheduled to go into full operation on Wednesday, June 25. Motorists should be alert for the traffic-control changes and slowed or stopped vehicles at the intersection.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) constructed the signal several years ago and it is being activated after completion of Renaissance Drive between Route 11 and Route 651 (Shady Elm Road). The Renaissance Drive extension is administered by Frederick County, funded partly by VDOT’s Revenue Sharing program. As part of the project, the railroad crossing on nearby Route 649 (Springdale Road) will be closed and will bring additional traffic to Renaissance Drive.
All work is weather permitting, and the signal-activation schedule is subject to change.
