Many Lumos customers will soon become T-Mobile fiber clients in a joint venture with EQT, a global investment organization, according to an announcement on Tuesday.
The venture will expand T-Mobile’s presence into fiber – with an already strong brand in the broadband market.
The Waynesboro-based Lumos offers a 7,500-mile fiber network, providing high-speed connectivity to 475,000 homes across the Mid-Atlantic.
In addition to Virginia, the Lumos network includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and Ohio.
The goal is to expand the reach of the combined network to 3.5 million homes by the end of 2028.
T-Mobile will take ownership of the customer experience, using its brand, nationwide retail footprint, differentiated marketing and customer-first service model to attract new subscribers.

Lumos customers will now have access to T-Mobile benefits including discounts on food, gas, entertainment and freebies through the T-Life app.
