In the US, GPA, or grade point average, is a basic method of calculating the academic achievement of a student. It helps in judging a student’s attributes and performances throughout their academic year in the school.

Depending upon their GPA score, they get admission to reputed colleges. Every college considers GPA scores, if the student has grades in a different system, they will have to specify it before, so they don’t get rejected.

GPA is considered an important factor to get selected in good colleges. Higher GPA scores, which are above GRE or SAT will get you admission in the top best 50 colleges. Above all, the class rank in GPA score can give you admission in best 20 colleges. GPA shows the credibility for student to perform in studies and other activities.

Most colleges believe in three scores, GPA, SAT, and ACT. Their main motive is to see if the student is capable of handling studies seriously as college is also concerned about their reputation. According to college GPA calculator, a student must get at least a score of 2 on the scale of 4. This helps them graduate easily and also gets financial assistance from the federal system.

If you know the college that you’re targeting, then it is necessary to know everything about it. Moreover, sticking to just one college or university isn’t wise therefore you should keep your options wider. Campus Reel is an online site that provides you information about various colleges in the US. Not only do they tell you about their academics and admission procedure, but they also take you to a tour to the college. Various videos, blogs uploaded by different students of respective colleges, work as an eye-opener and gives clear picture.

If you don’t know how a college calculates GPA scores, then here is the process mentioned below –

  • GPA is derived by summing up all grade points that you’ve incurred divided by the total number of credit time period received.
  • Credit hours for full time and part-time classes differ. Always remember part-time classes will have lesser points compared to full hour classes.
  • The credit hours points can vary from 1 to 5.
  • GPA provides a grading scale A, B, C, D, F, and each grade is given points. A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0.
  • If you’ve taken a class that contains three units and you scored A, then 3 is multiplied by 4 and 12 is your score or grades. Along with that you take a class that provides 4 units and you’ve scored C in it, then 2 is multiplied by 4 to give 8 grade points in your score.
  • The total points you incurred above is 20 out of 7 united provided by class. Now, this 20 is divided by total number of credit hour class points, i.e. 7, to give you 2.86 as your GPA score.

A, B, C, D are the main grades, but there are other grades that fall in between

A Category

  • A- = 3.67

B Category

  • B+ = 3.33
  • B- = 2.67

C Category

  • C+ = 2.33
  • C- = 1.67

D Category

  • D+ = 1.33
  • D- = 0.67

Competition is high and students try their best to come first in the race. However, everyone is not capable of achieving what they have dreamt of. Education is important, but excessive pressure and stress can destroy your life and future. Therefore, don’t rush and stress yourself, but believe in yourself and work hard.
