Man dead in Sunday accident involving train: Waynesboro

police crime sceneAn unidentified male is dead after apparently being struck by a train at the Florence Avenue bridge behind Willow Oak Plaza in Waynesboro.

The incident was reported at 2:53 p.m. Sunday.

The Waynesboro Police Department, Waynesboro Fire Department and the Waynesboro First Aid Crew all responded to the scene. Once on scene, it was determined a westbound train struck an adult male. The male was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity remains unknown at this time.

This section of railroad track was closed down for approximately 2 1/2 hours while the accident was investigated and evidence was collected. The accident remains under investigation.
