Chris Graham

staunton virginiaSeven people were displaced as a result of a house fire on Hook Lane in Staunton reported at 10:41 a.m. Sunday.

A Staunton Fire Department crew arrived to find fire coming from an upstairs window. The crew entered the house and found fire in an upstairs bedroom. The fire was extinguished and the crews began to check for any hidden fire. The fire did extend into the attic. The upstairs sustained heat and smoke damage and the first-floor sustained water damage.

All occupants were accounted for, and one adult female occupant was transported to Augusta Health for evaluation. A family cat succumbed to its injuries.

There were smoke alarms present, but the family discovered the fire before the smoke alarms sounded. The cause of the fire is accidental.

A total of seven occupants were displaced. The Red Cross was contacted to assist with the family’s needs.
