Interstate 81 pavement testing now scheduled for Monday in Rockbridge County

Chris Graham

interstate 81Pavement testing on Interstate 81 in Rockbridge County is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Monday, June 27, and run until 7 a.m. the following morning.

This work will require mobile left-lane closures on northbound Interstate 81 in Rockbridge County.  These operations are scheduled to take place between mile marker 185 and 195, and will also require a short detour for eastbound I-64 traffic in the Lexington area.

For about four hours on Monday night into early Tuesday morning, eastbound I-64 drivers headed northbound on I-81 will enter southbound I-81 to exit 188A (Route 60/Buena Vista). Drivers will then use the off- and on-ramps at this exit to take I-81 northbound. Signs and variable message boards will direct motorists on the detour route.

All work is weather permitting.
