VDOT has scheduled a public information meeting for Thursday, Oct. 15, to give folks a chance to learn more about and weigh in on the ongoing Interstate 81 widening project in the Harrisonburg/Rockingham County area.

The open house-styled meeting will be held at Pleasant Valley Elementary School in Harrisonburg from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The public is invited to stop in any time between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to learn about current and upcoming construction activities, view project display boards and maps, and talk with members of the project team.

The I-81 widening project will:

  • add a third travel lane in each direction between mile markers 242.0 and 248.8
  • replace the Pleasant Valley Road bridge over I-81
  • build a new single-lane roundabout at the intersection of Pleasant Valley Road, Early Road and Abbott Lane.

Construction began in the spring, and is scheduled for completion in summer 2032.
