Carroll County: North Carolina man dead following single-vehicle crash on New Year’s Day

A 19-year-old man died in a fatal single-vehicle crash early on New Year’s Day in Carroll County.

Elijah B. Slavey, of Low Gap, N.C. died at the scene, according to Virginia State Police.

The crash occurred at 1:01 a.m. on Jan. 1 on Route 643.

Slavey’s 2013 Nissan Altima was heading southbound when he failed to negotiate a curve, went off the left side of the road and struck a tree head-on.  The vehicle then struck a second tree.

Slavey was not wearing a seatbelt.

A passenger in the Nissan, Marvin D. Delp, III, 19, suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital.  Delp was wearing a seatbelt.

The crash remains under investigation by VSP.
