SMAC swimmer Remedy Rule commits to University of Texas

rulepic2Western Albemarle High School senior Remedy Rule made a verbal commitment to join the swim team at the University of Texas on Sunday.

Rule, a member of the SMAC swim team at the Waynesboro YMCA, was a focal point for recruiting for the incoming class of 2015 for ut coach Carol Capitani.

The powerful swimming and diving program at Texas has produced 43 Olympians and 23 Olympic medal winners. Rule qualified for the 2012 Olympic Trials in three events – the 200-meter backstroke, 100-meter butterfly and 200-meter butterfly.

Rule earned a spot on USA Swimming’s Junior National Team with a 2:11.24 in the 200-meter butterfly at the Austin Grand Prix in January, and it appears that she could be an immediate contributor at Texas in the fly events, where there is a feeling that she may be able to qualify for the NCAAs as a freshman.
