Virginia makes it hard for governors already by only letting them serve one four-year term. Then we make it harder for them by only letting them submit one budget. OK, so technically they submit two budgets, one in the middle of their term and one at the end, for their successor to have to deal with.

Heisman Trophy finalist Jameis Winston of Florida State leads the 2013 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Football Team, as selected by the league’s 14 head coaches. Winston was one of three unanimous first-team selections to the All-ACC team. He was joined by national rushing leader and fellow Heisman finalist Andre Williams of Boston College and Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins.

The State Board of Elections voted unanimously Monday to certify Democrat Mark Herring as the winner in the hotly-contested state attorney general race. Herring defeated Republican Mark Obenshain by 165 votes out of the more than 2.2 million votes cast in the Nov. 5 election, easily the closest margin percentage-wise in state political history.

Earlier this month, an alarm about Virginia’s razor-close Attorney General’s race sounded in some Democratic circles. Adam Swerver, in an article posted on the MSNBC website, declared that even if the defeat of Republican candidate Mark Obenshain is confirmed in a recount, he might still be able to have himself declared the winner.

Almost 300 voting delegates representing 88 county Farm Bureaus statewide will gather next month to help shape Virginia Farm Bureau Federation’s state and federal policies for the coming year. During this year’s VFBF Annual Convention, those delegates will discuss and vote on numerous policies that affect farmers and their livelihoods.

The State Board of Elections website now has Republican Mark Obenshain with a narrow 17-vote lead over Democrat Mark Herring in the Virginia attorney general race. An unofficial count by Cook Political Report reporter Dave Wasserman has Herring with a 115-vote lead, meanwhile.

It’s almost dangerous to say this, but as of this writing, Republican Mark Obenshain has a 681-vote lead over Democrat Mark Herring in the too-close-to-call Virginia attorney general race. And now the focus shifts to the inevitable recount that is to come, even as the candidates jockey for position in the ongoing PR battle.
