Gov. Bob McDonnell on Monday announced a leadership contribution of $100,000 to the Virginia Public Safety Foundation from Motorola Solutions Foundation, benefiting construction of the Commonwealth Public Safety Memorial. The memorial will be Virginia’s monument to nearly 750 public safety heroes killed in the line of duty and the 165,000 public safety officers serving Virginians every day.

One of the Valley’s favorite music trio’s will hold the stage at WTA’s Gateway on Saturday, December 8 at 8 pm. The Boogie Kings will feature music from their Boogie Kings Christmas cd as well as some of their more popular Boogie Kings’ tunes. As the results roll in from a two-year Shenandoah Valley Regional Energy Efficiency Strategy developed and executed by the Central Shenandoah Planning District Commission, the program is being touted by Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy Projects Coordinator, Ron Hachey, as a “shining star” among other state energy efficiency projects.

The Richmond Raiders have inked five players to preseason contracts including one returning player from the 2012 PIFL runner-up and four newcomers to the team. They represent a mixture of veterans and younger players who Head Coach James Fuller believes will provide additional quality up and down the roster.

Jim Reid is gone from the University of Virginia after his defense finished fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference in total defense. Bill Lazor, meanwhile, continues to be employed after his UVa. offense finished eighth in the conference in total offense and ninth in scoring offense.

The second 4-8 season in three years under Virginia football coach Mike London is ending with a bloodletting. London announced on Sunday the firings of defensive coordinator Jim Reid, recruiting coordinator Jeff Hanson, running-backs coach Mike Faragalli and tight-ends coach Shawn Moore, the demotion of special-teams coordinator Anthony Poindexter and the departure of rising senior quarterback Michael Rocco.
