hrchamberlogo2The second annual Blue Ridge Music and BBQ Festival is smokin’ back into Harrisonburg on Aug. 23 & 24 at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds.

Brought to you by the HR Chamber of Commerce and Blue Ridge Beverage, the centerpiece of the family-friendly event is a Kansas City Barbeque Society sanctioned BBQ competition. More than 20 championship BBQ teams from all over Virginia and the surrounding states are expected to come together to compete for cash prizes, fame and points on the BBQ Circuit – and have some fun while doing it. This year’s event will also include sampling (while supplies last) and a People’s Choice Award.

Live Music is another big part of the event and will include performances from local bands The Travelin’ Hillbillies and Bryan Elijah Smith and the Wildhearts. Plus, the very first Shenandoah Valley Battle of the Bands competition, with talent search and selection by Clear Channel Radio, will take place on Saturday afternoon. Eight local artists will vie for the opportunity to win a one of a kind hand-painted trophy guitar and for a spot on the 2014 ValleyFest Beer & Wine Festival music line-up. Additional activities include a classic car cruise-in, cornhole tournament, food and craft vendors, children’s activities and more.

“We are pleased to be sanctioned by the KCBS and recognized by the Governor’s office. This puts not only our event but Harrisonburg and Rockingham County on the map for serious bbq enthusiasts and as the site of another fun event” remarked Frank Tamberrino, President of the HRCC. “The new Battle of the Bands contest gives the event another unique twist and helps support the local music scene. This event is a great way for anyone to celebrate the end of the summer, with BBQ, music, friends and family.”

Tickets for the 2nd Annual Blue Ridge Music and BBQ Festival go on sale tomorrow, July 12, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. Tickets can be purchased online at www.blueridgemusicandbbq.com or in-person at the HR Chamber Office located at 800 Country Club Road. This year’s festival will take place on Friday, August 23 from 5-9 pm and on Saturday, August 24 from 10am-6pm.

The Blue Ridge Music and BBQ Festival, declared for the second year as a Virginia State Barbeque Championship by Governor Bob McDonnell, is brought to you by the HR Chamber, Blue Ridge Beverage, Farmers and Merchants Bank, VBS Mortgage and Quaker Steak and Lube.

The Blue Ridge BBQ & Music Festival is sanctioned by Kansas City Barbeque Society. KCBS is the world’s largest organization of barbeque and grilling enthusiasts with over 10,000 members worldwide. KCBS sanctions almost 300 barbeque contests coast-to-coast throughout America, where competitions for barbequed chicken, ribs, pork and brisket are served up and judged by Certified Barbeque Judges. KCBS is the most respected judging and sanctioning body in America because of its blind judging process that uses a weighted scoring index to ensure a level playing field for all competitors. The organization also trains and commissions Certified Barbeque Judges at classes held across America. CBJ’s learn how professionals distinquish great barbeque from average fare based on three important elements: appearance, taste and texture. To learn more about KCBS, visit: www.kcbs.us.
