Staunton implements new citizen alert system

The City of Staunton announced last week the inauguration of the Everbridge system for citizen alerts. This new system will communicate with thousands of businesses and residents in the event of an emergency. Everbridge is an interactive communication and mass notification platform that helps organizations save lives, manage critical activities and improve the efficiency of daily operations.

Broadway and Beyond 0pens the holiday season at WTA’s Gateway

WTA’s Gateway ushers in the Christmas season with a dessert cabaret featuring two of the areas favorite performers. Diane Heavner and Brian Holsopple accompanied by Don Roe will take the audience on a musical tour of the Great White Way. The performance will run for two evenings, once on Friday, November 30 and once on Saturday, December 1 at 8 pm on the Gateway stage at 329 West Main in Downtown Waynesboro.

Report: Homeless rate down 8 percent in Virginia

Gov. Bob McDonnell announced today the state is making significant headway toward the goal of reducing statewide homelessness. Citing data collected by local Continuum of Care groups across the Commonwealth, compiled by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development and the Virginia Coalition to End Homelessness, the governor announced that overall homelessness has declined 8 percent from 2010 to 2012 and for families the reduction has been even more pronounced, an 11 percent reduction. Additionally, there has been a drop of 36 percent in the number of people experiencing chronic homelessness in Virginia.

WWE brings troop tribute to Virginia

Gov. Bob McDonnell announced Monday that WWE will bring its 10th annual holiday salute to the United States Armed Forces, WWE Tribute to the Troops presented by Slim Jim, to Virginia this December. The 10th anniversary holiday extravaganza will air as a two-hour television special on Wednesday, December 19 at 9/8C on USA Network and as a one-hour television special on Saturday, December 22 at 9/8C on NBC.
