#4 UVa. baseball completes Wake Forest sweep, improves to 30-3

Joe McCarthy (Fr., Scranton, Pa.) homered twice as part of a four-hit day and Nick Howard (So., Olney, Md.) did not allow an earned run over 7 1/3 innings as the fourth-ranked Virginia baseball team recorded a 9-7 win over Wake Forest Monday evening at Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball Park. The Cavaliers (30-3, 12-3 ACC) finished off a three-game series sweep and now have won 11 straight games against Wake Forest (17-17, 4-11), dating to 2008.

Reed Gragnani homer lifts #4 Virginia to 8-6 win at Wake Forest

The fourth-ranked Virginia baseball team got a two-out, two-run home run from Reed Gragnani (Sr., Richmond, Va.) in the eighth inning to break a tie game and lift the Cavaliers to an 8-6 win over Wake Forest Sunday afternoon at Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball Park. The blast was the first home run in 130 career games for Gragnani.

Down to its final strike with two outs in the ninth inning, the No. 4 Virginia baseball team rallied for a 7-6 victory over Wake Forest Saturday afternoon at Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball Park. Mike Papi (So., Tunkhannock, Pa.) hit a two-out grand slam off Wake Forest closer Connor Kaden to give UVa a 7-6 lead, capping a five-run, ninth-inning comeback.

Harrisonburg Startup Weekend to be held this weekend

The Harrisonburg Startup Weekend is scheduled to open this Friday evening at Showker Hall on the JMU campus. This event is being organized by a coalition of local organizations interested in fostering the entrepreneurial spirit in the Harrisonburg region. The event runs from Friday evening to Sunday evening when a panel of judges will select one team as the winner for their idea, presentation and feasibility.

Broad bipartisan support for McDonnell budget, legislative amendments

As the 2013 General Assembly session draws to a close, the overwhelming majority of Gov. Bob McDonnell’s 2013 legislative agenda passed with strong bipartisan support, leading to the passage of the first sustainable and long-term transportation funding and reform package in 27 years, and sweeping K-12 education reforms. The House of Delegates and Senate of Virginia approved 88 percent of the amended bills the governor sent down.
