Throughout the 2013 General Assembly Session, nearly 60 transportation and business groups representing a diverse cross section of industries and associations in all parts of the Commonwealth endorsed Gov. Bob McDonnell’s Virginia’s Road to the Future transportation funding and reform plan. The organizations listed below have now endorsed the governor’s amendments to make the legislation easier to implement and to address legal concerns about the bill and are urging the General Assembly to move the amended legislation forward.

U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, toured military bases in Hampton and Virginia Beach today where he discussed the importance of budget certainty for the defense community. In the afternoon, Kaine met with military families in Norfolk to discuss steps to increase support for servicemembers and their families as well as ease the transition from active duty to civilian life and employment.

The fifth-ranked Virginia baseball team had its nine-game win streak come to an end Sunday as it fell, 4-3, to Miami at Davenport Field. The Hurricanes (20-11, 5-7 ACC) scored four runs in the first inning and held on as the Cavaliers (25-3, 9-3) chipped away before falling short.

Four Virginia pitchers combined to scatter four hits as the fifth-ranked Cavaliers defeated Miami, 8-1, Saturday afternoon in front of 4,258 spectators at Davenport Field. In winning its ninth straight game, Virginia (25-2, 9-2 ACC) clinched its fourth ACC series win in as many weeks.

The fifth-ranked UVa. baseball team blew open a close game with Miami with a nine-run eighth inning in a 15-4 victory over the Hurricanes Friday night at Davenport Field. The Cavaliers (24-2, 8-2 ACC) recorded their eighth straight win and their fifth consecutive ACC victory.

Left fielder Brad Burcroff went 3-for-3 with five RBIs and Northeastern pulled away from a 2-2 tie with seven runs over the three middle innings to defeat James Madison 12-5 in the opener of a Colonial Athletic Association baseball series on Friday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.

Cold Fusion has been on sabbatical due to the brief illness and eventual passing of my mom on January 14th. I started back up writing a few weeks ago and posting on my website’s blog – www.chrissaxman.com; however, my Cold Fusion emails were very special to mom. She reviewed every one of them before I hit send. Like just about every son, I didn’t take all of her edits, but I soaked up her praise.

On Friday, March 22, Staunton Downtown Development Association (SDDA) and the city of Staunton were presented with Virginia Main Street Milestone Achievement Awards for the contribution of over 80,000 volunteer hours dedicated to downtown revitalization and for fostering more than 500 building improvement projects in the city’s historic commercial district.
