The House of Delegates voted 74-22 on Thursday to pass an amended state budget that fails to expand Medicaid, while the State Senate in a separate 36-4 vote approved an amendment to the budget that expands Medicaid to more than 400,000 poor Virginians.

With revenue largely off the table for future negotiating, we need to resolve our budget woes by putting the breaks on runaway government spending in a balanced, strategic way. Given that the Pentagon budget makes up more than half of all discretionary spending, smart savings there should be a key part of the solution to the current budget battle.

This past week during our first district work week of the 113th Congress, we had the opportunity to visit Danville and Blairs, and to make our first official visits in Warrenton.
