Ken Plum: The meaning of the American Revolution

In May I attended the cornerstone dedication for the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. I am a member of the Board of Trustees of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, and I am very pleased that a new museum is being built to commemorate the American victory at Yorktown. As noteworthy as the new structure is, most important is the envisioning of the message it will convey about the significance of the American victory in the stream of world history.

McDonnell releases draft PPTA pipeline

Gov. Bob McDonnell today released the Office of Transportation Public-Private Partnerships’ (“OTP3”) Draft 2013 Virginia PPTA Pipeline. The pipeline – which contains both long identified public-private transportation projects and new conceptual projects – follows on the heels of a year in which the value of the deals closed exceeded almost all other transportation markets across the globe, and Virginia’s P3 program was recognized as an international leader in public-private partnerships.

Earth Talk: Barack Obama’s climate change initiative

In what’s being billed as the greatest environmental initiative of his presidency, Barack Obama announced on June 25, 2013 that his administration is instituting stringent mandatory restrictions on greenhouse gas emissions by power plants, factories and other industrial sources. These sources combined account for roughly 40 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions across the U.S. The goal is to reduce overall greenhouse gas emissions nationally by four percent below 1990 levels within the next seven years.
