Salem wraps up win after short skunk delay

With two outs in the bottom of the 11th and the tying run at second base, Salem lefty Robby Scott was halted in his pursuit of victory. Deep in the outfield, a skunk sneaked on to the field and strolled on the warning track. After a brief pause (the skunk was shooed off the field by the bold Hillcats groundskeeper), Scott induced a game-ending ground out to give the Red Sox a surprisingly sweet 5-4 triumph in 11 innings.

New Virginia Gentlemen?

As the bus started rolling for Chantilly on Friday afternoon, no one aboard really knew what lay in store for them on this trip. The young men had looked up the word “cotillion” a handful of times, watched videos from previous events, learned ballroom dance steps from FMS Supermom, Mrs. Wright, and Fishburne’s Ms. Byrne, and painstakingly memorized rules for proper silveware usage.

Hillcats top Frederick, 6-1

The Hillcats beat the Frederick Keys 6-1 tonight behind an outstanding performance from starter Greg Ross. He threw seven scoreless innings, and retired the last five batters he faced. Elmer Reyes broke the game open in the sixth inning with a three-run triple, leading the Hillcats to a series opening victory.

Richmond shuts out Akron, 2-0

Left-hander Edwin Escobar turned in his finest performance in the Eastern League, leading the Richmond Flying Squirrels (50-58) to a 2-0 win over the Akron Aeros (53-55) on Sunday afternoon at Canal Park. The Squirrels salvaged a split of the four-game series as Escobar turned in 7 1/3 shutout innings for the win.
