Four-star wide receiver Jamil Kamara (Bishop Sullivan) committed to UVa. at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Saturday. The 6’2” Kamara chose UVa. over Wisconsin and Pitt. He becomes the 16th member of Virginia’s 2014 recruiting class.

Attorney General-elect Mark Herring today announced the appointment of two more senior officials in the Office of Attorney General. Herring will be sworn in as Virginia’s 48th Attorney General on Jan. 11. Stuart Raphael, currently a partner with the Litigation Team of Hunton & Williams LLP, will serve as Virginia’s Solicitor General.

Gov.-elect Terry McAuliffe announced at a press conference on Thursday the nomination of Secretary Maurice Jones as Secretary of Commerce and Trade. Jones, a Kenbridge native, is the former president of the Pilot Media Group, and currently serves as deputy secretary of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.

New Year’s Day is almost here, and it’s a good time to look back upon the best and worst in transportation in our area during 2013. So it is time to rank and rant as we ponder the milestones and frown upon the millstones in transportation in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia during the year that was 2013.

Sophomore guards Charles Cooke (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic) and Ron Curry(Pennsauken, N.J./Paul VI) combined with graduate forward Andrey Semenov (St. Petersburg, Russia/Blue Ridge School) for 53 points to lead James Madison to a 73-68 victory over Ball State on Monday evening at the JMU Convocation Center.

The William and Mary men’s basketball team suffered an 82-45 setback to Big 12 foe West Virginia at the Charleston Civic Center on Sunday afternoon. W&M scored the game’s opening four points and led early, but the Mountaineers claimed the victory behind 49.2 percent shooting from the field and a decisive advantage on the glass (47-31).

Attorney General-elect Mark Herring today announced Cynthia E. Hudson will serve as his Chief Deputy Attorney General. In this new role Hudson will oversee the day-to-day legal operations of the Attorney General’s office and work with Attorney General Herring to provide top-level professional legal services to the Commonwealth and all Virginians.
