At the initiative of alumnus Scott Kimmel, the Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge has created a new endowed fund, to be known as the Fort Defiance High School Foundation.

A 2007 Mills Godwin High School and 2011 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute graduate of Fort Defiance, VA., is serving aboard a U.S. Navy attack submarine, the USS Hawaii (SSN 776).

A 2009 Fort Defiance High School graduate is serving aboard a U.S. Navy attack submarine, the USS Hawaii (SSN 776). Petty Officer 2nd Class Jacob Howell is an electronics technician aboard the Hawaii-based boat.

Motorists should be alert for lane closures September 16-18, 2013 on Route 616 (Dam Town Road) near Fort Defiance in Augusta County. The work zone will be between Route 777 (Knightly Lane) and Route 929 (River Bend Drive).
