Flying 30,000 feet to Switzerland, having drinks at the Country Club, talking on the radio, I imagine it’s all the same for Jakki Price.
“An important part of my show is the message that life is what you make it,” said Price, a 19-year veteran flight attendant, former model, actress and dancer and the host of “The Jakki Price Show: From The Airlines To The Airwaves, You’re In The Air With Jakki Price,” which is set to debut this summer in the Washington, D.C., market on WOL-1450AM.
“You can’t wait for success to happen,” said Price, who relocated to Waynesboro from her native Buffalo, N.Y., three years ago, and has spent much of her time in the Valley chasing her radio-show dream, which dates back to her years growing up as an only child.
“I remember I had a tape recorder, and I’d tape myself doing little shows even back then,” said Price, who dropped out of college as a young adult to pursue another dream, a chance at a career in the entertainment world, which culminated with a role in a TV pilot that never got picked up, before settling into a comfortable life in the airline industry.
Her weekly radio show will view the world largely through the lens of the air industry. A staple segment, “Inflight Spotlight,” will feature interviews with pilots and flight attendants who have businesses that they run in their downtime from the skies. “Because of our schedules, we do have a lot of down time, and a lot of us do have businesses outside the flight industry,” said Price, who estimates her workload being about “five or six” flights a month.
So there’s that, plus the rich material that comes from passengers and crew being on long flights together.
“You wouldn’t believe some of the things that happen to us up in the air,” Price said.
Price will produce the show from her Waynesboro home, at least for the time being.
“I have a dream studio in mind, but what I have now is a dream come true already,” Price said.
“That’s the message that I’m going to reinforce on my show every week. You have to believe in yourself and believe that you can make it happen. Success isn’t something that happens. You have to make it happen,” Price said.
