WrestleMania battle royal: Let’s bury Dolph Ziggler, Big E, Ryback, why not?

wwe-wrestlemania30-logoHulk Hogan’s big announcement at Monday Night Raw was the news that WrestleMania 30 will feature the first-ever Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. What he could have just as easily said was, This is WWE’s way to bury a few so-called superstars.

Former World Heavyweight Champion Dolph Ziggler, for example. He’s in the battle royal. No storyline feud for Ziggs heading into ‘Mania. You get to tussle around in a meaningless match with a dozen or more other forgotten talents for about 10 minutes for an even more meaningless trophy!

Ziggler, in my view, is the best in-ring talent on the WWE roster. He could put on a thrilling main event with me as his opponent. Putting Ziggler in a battle royal is a supreme waste of talent.

Putting Ryback in the battle royal is a waste of whatever little bit of juice is left over from that now odd push that he got a couple of years ago. It’s hard to imagine that Ryback was ever in the mix for the top of the card now that he’s barely an afterthought at the bottom.

Big E being in the match means we don’t see the Intercontinental Title defended on the show. Yawn. Remember when the IC title meant something? Randy Savage became a huge star with his run as champ in the mid-1980s. Shawn Michaels, Razor Ramon, Bret Hart … now it’s barely a prop to WWE. Sad.

Kofi Kingston, Curtis Axel, Damien Sandow … congratulations, you get to be on the big show, which isn’t much different than being on the pre-show now that you can get WM for $9.99. But anyway, again, congrats.
