The Cavaliers struck quickly to open the second half with Alexis Theoret’s goal in the 48th minute, and UVA made it a 4-0 lead in the 60th minute when Linda Mittermair found the net on a deflected shot from Ryan.

Sophia Bradley capped the scoring in the 75th minute off a combo play with Maya Carter. Bradley passed the ball ahead to Carter near the top left of the box. and the junior forward then passed it back to Carter as she approached the penalty arc. The freshman fired her shot on frame and put the Hoos up 5-0.

“We did a good job on both sides of the ball overall. That’s a good Utah Valley team and they are going to win games this year for sure,” UVA coach Steve Swanson said. “We started off well and got two very good goals. We showed more aggressiveness and decisiveness in the attacking third. Our defense did a really good job against a very good transition-oriented team. We limited them and did a good job of keeping our shape and defending well. We’ve got some time now to get back on the training ground.”

Up next: Virginia returns to the road with a single game next week when the ‘Hoos travel to face JMU on Sunday in a 6 p.m. contest at JMU.
