Chris Graham

policeDeputies from the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Bolton Place in Fishersville Monday shortly before noon for a report of a 17-year-old male juvenile who was in possession of a handgun and was reported to be upset and despondent.

The teen was alleged to have fired several shots in the air prior to departing the residence in a red Chevrolet Cruz. Responding deputies soon spotted the juvenile’s vehicle traveling east on Jefferson Highway near Woodrow Wilson Boulevard. Due to the close proximity of the Wilson schools, the Sheriff’s Office notified the schools, and they were put on a brief lockdown.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the red Chevrolet Cruz on Barren Ridge Road, just off of Jefferson Highway. The juvenile was taken into custody for a mental health evaluation, and a handgun was located and seized. The apprehension occurred without incident and the juvenile is currently being evaluated at Augusta Health.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

Due to the young man’s age, no further details on this incident will be released.
