The library will be closed Wednesday, July 4 for Independence Day.

Children’s Summer Reading Program – “Dream Big, Read” at your library. This program is open to children and young adults of all ages and reading abilities.  The store is back and full of books.  Earn weekly prizes and library dollars by reading and spend those dollars in the library store.  Participants earn one dollar per picture book or one dollar for every ten pages of a chapter book, once the book is checked in.  You must be present at check-in to receive the dollars.  The program store is open through July 27th.

Lip Service to Literature (L2L) –  A reading discussion group for ages 13 and up.  The book selection is the New York Times bestseller Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs.  Copies of the book will be provided by the library for just $3.00 while supplies last.  Receive a goodie bag for each L2L discussion attended.  Please sign up.

Book-A-Trip – Read Unruly Americans & the Origins of the Constitution by Woody Holton. Books are available for purchase at the library. Bus trip to Montpellier, Madison’s beautiful home in September.

Tuesday, July 3, 3:00 p.m. – Scrabble Club. For ages 13 and up but all skill levels are welcome. More seasoned players should bring their own board. Please sign up.

Tuesday, July 3, 6:30 p.m. – B.Y.O. Bring your own glass picture frame to make an easy stained glass design. Ages 13 and up. Registration required.

Monday, July 9 – Monday, August 6 – Read Between the Covers Adult Summer Reading Program. Check out books to be entered in a drawing for a weekly prize. All entries will be included in a grand prize drawing for a portable DVD player. Register and pick up guidelines at the library.

Tuesday, July 10, 12:00 p.m. – Music at the Library. Fritz Horisk performs vintage acoustic pop. Free pizza and soda provided.

Monday, July 10, 10:30 a.m. – Yoga for Children. The Waynesboro YMCA & WPL offer children ages 6-12 the opportunity to learn basic yoga exercises.  Perfect for energizing a young body, mind, and spirit.  Registration is required.

Tuesday, July 10, 6:30 p.m. – L2L. Young adult book discussion of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs.

Friday, July 13, 12:00 p.m. – Book-A-Trip discussion. Woody Holton, University of Richmond professor and author of Unruly Americans and the Origins of the Constitution, gives a book talk. Book sales and signings will also occur.

Friday, July 13, 6:30 p.m. – Friday Night at the Movies. Showing new releases on the big screen. Free popcorn and soda. Call the library for the featured film.

Saturday, July 14, 12:00 p.m. – Puppet Show. Ventriloquist Uncle Ty-rone brings colorful characters to entertain your family.  Fun for all ages!

Tuesday, July 17, 6:30 p.m. – B.Y.O. Bring your own magazine to make unique beads. Ages 13 and up. Registration required.

Wednesday, July 18, 2:00 p.m. – Book Club. Fascinating and far ranging discussion with other book lovers. The book is provided, participants vote on selections, and a staff member leads the discussion. Call the library for this month’s selection.

Wednesday, June 20, 7:00 p.m. –Book Club. Fascinating and far ranging discussion with other book lovers. The book is provided, participants vote on selections, and a staff member leads the discussion. This month’s selection is Room by Emma Donoghue.

Friday, July 27, 6:30 p.m. – Fun Fest. The Summer Reading Program ends with Fun Fest ‘12. Enjoy music, a petting zoo, face painting, an inflatable jumping castle, games and lots of street fair fun for everyone!
