The Waynesboro Police Department is investigating the theft of three vehicles that occurred in the city sometime early Christmas morning or late Christmas Eve.
Officers were first called to the scene of a crash in the 200 block of South Forest Avenue at approximately 4 a.m. involving a 1999 Ford Expedition and a parked 2009 Hyundai. Damage to the Ford was estimated at $800 and the Hyundai sustained approximately $5,000. Occupants of the Expedition had fled the scene prior to police arrival and were never located. Subsequently it was learned that the Expedition had been stolen from a residence in the 300 block of South Winchester Avenue.
At approximately 7 a.m. a resident of the 300 block of South Forest Avenue reported that a 1992 green Chevy Camaro was missing. This vehicle was later found in the 300 Block of South Winchester Avenue with over $2,000 damage. It was later determined that this vehicle had been involved in a hit and run in the 300 block of North Charlotte Avenue, where it had struck a parked 1996 Dodge Dakota sometime prior to being recovered. Damage to the Dakota is estimated at $2,500.
At approximately 8 a.m. a resident of the 400 block of North Delphine Avenue reported a 1965 Ford pick-up had been stolen. This vehicle was subsequently located undamaged at fairfax hall off of Reservoir Street.
All of these vehicles had the keys in them when they were taken and may be related crimes due to the proximity of time and location.
In addition, officers located a crash scene on South Delphine Avenue near I-64 where a vehicle jumped the concrete median and struck a metal street sign before fleeing. Crash debris at this scene indicates that the vehicle involved is a silver Dodge Caliber. This may or may not be related to the other three incidents, but the fleeing vehicle left a fluid trail which officers followed north on South Delphine to 11th Street, where it ended. This is in the immediate area where two of the other events occurred. This vehicle has not been found nor has a vehicle matching this description been reported stolen.
