Washington Redskins announces changes to player personnel staff

redskins-helmetThe Washington Redskins announced today that they have promoted Jeff Scott and Josh Washburn to Pro Scout, hired Matt Evans as a player personnel assistant and added Brian Zeches as an administrative assistant.

Scott is entering his third NFL season with the Redskins after spending time as a salary cap intern and scouting intern in 2012 before joining the staff full-time as a player personnel assistant in 2013. Washburn is entering his fourth NFL season and his third with the Redskins in 2014. After one season as a scouting intern for the Tennessee Titans in 2011, Washburn spent the 2012 season with the Redskins as a scouting intern before being promoted to a player personnel assistant in 2013.

Scott and Washburn will be responsible the evaluation and writing of player reports on potential talent in NFL free agency, in addition to weekly advance scouting of Redskins opponents. Washburn will also oversee scouting of the Canadian Football League as well as colleges in Virginia and Maryland.

Scott graduated from Davidson College, where he played as a defensive back from 2004-07. The Fredericksburg, Va., native earned his master’s degree in sports management from georgetown university in 2012.

Washburn graduated with a degree in exercise and sports science from North Carolina, where played wide receiver for the Tar Heels and was a member of the 2008-09 Atlantic Coastal Conference Honor Roll. He also earned a master’s degree in sports administration from the University of Miami in 2011, where he was an intern in the football team’s recruiting department.

Evans is entering his first NFL season after a distinguished playing career at the University of new hampshire from 2008-12. The former linebacker collected a school-record 460 career tackles and was a three-time Walter Camp Football Foundation All American (2010-12).

In March 2013, new hampshire honored Evans by retiring his No. 52 jersey. In 2011, Evans earned the Buck Buchanan Award, given annually to the most outstanding defensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision.

Zeches joins the Redskins after working for DVSport, Inc. in 2013 and previously serving as a scouting assistant for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012. His background includes working as a graduate assistant at the University of New Mexico from 2006-07 and at UTEP from 2008-09. He also served as running backs coach for Weber State for two seasons from 2010-11.

Zeches began his collegiate career at the University of Illinois before transferring to Idaho State, where he played quarterback for three seasons. His father, Jim, is currently one of the Redskins’ area scouts.
