FCS Football Central announced its third annual Freshman All-America Team on Tuesday, with VMI cornerback Asa Locks among the honorees.

The Lusby, Md., native was named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Defensive Team after totaling 67.0 tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble in his first season at the collegiate level.

In the Keydets’ home opener against Bucknell, Locks had 6.0 tackles, a forced fumble and a 48-yard interception returned for a touchdown. Locks was also crucial in VMI’s win over Furman, totaling 10.0 tackles and a pass breakup in the victory.

The bad news for VMI Football: all this does is make it easier for Locks to climb the ladder via the transfer portal.
