Virginia State Police seek help in locating hit-and-run vehicle in Rockingham County

policecar3Virginia State Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a vehicle that fatally struck a pedestrian Thursday night in Rockingham County.

At 7:23 p.m., Trooper C.T. McCutcheon responded to the scene along Route 11/North Valley Pike at the Interstate 81 Exit 251. A woman was walking on the right shoulder of the southbound lane of Route 11 when she was struck by a passing vehicle. She died at the scene.

State police are asking for anyone who may recall seeing a woman walking along Route 11 in the 3400 block around 7:15 p.m. Thursday evening to call 540-829-7766 or #77 on a cell phone. State police are also seeking information on the hit-and-run vehicle, which would have damage to its passenger side and passenger side mirror.

The incident remains under investigation. The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office and Fire and Rescue assisted state police at the scene.
