Virginia State Police: Avoid travel, 250 crashes today due to snow, 23 with injuries

Virginia State Police continue to urge Virginians to avoid travel to allow the Virginia Department of Transportation and other emergency crews room to work on the roads.

Snow continues to fall, and accidents continue to pile up throughout Virginia with the majority of crashes in central and western Virginia.

Statewide, since midnight, there have been 250 crashes. Twenty-three crashes have had reported injuries. There have been no fatal crashes in this storm to date, according to VSP.

  • Appomattox division (covering central/western Virginia, including South Boston, Lynchburg, Charlottesville, and Staunton): 60 crashes, nine with injuries
  • Wytheville division (covering southwestern Virginia): 41 crashes, three with injuries
  • Richmond division (covering central Virginia): 25 crashes, three with injuries
  • Fairfax division (covering northern Virginia): 16 crashes, two with injuries

Virginia State Police report a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 85 southbound in Mecklenburg County at the five mile marker. There have been multiple crashes along Interstate 85 this afternoon.
