road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for removing debris, trimming around signs, and cleaning paved ditches and slopes. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 18 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 60 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 159 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 606 (Sioux Street, Clifton Forge) – Right shoulder closure with intermittent flagging for box culvert construction work under I-64.  Estimated completion June 15, 2015.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation. Patching with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation.  Patching and pipe replacement with flagger traffic control. Mondayto Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for removing debris, cleaning paved ditches, and trimming around signs. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 51.4 to 55.2, eastbound and mile marker 56.7 to 53.6, westbound – Lane and shoulder closures as needed. Maury River Bridge rehabilitation project. Estimated completion is Oct. 6, 2016.

(NEW) Mile marker 56, eastbound – Slow-roll closure Sunday, August 24, from 6:30 a.m. to approximately 7 a.m. for installation of fiber optic cables crossing I-81 at Lexington/Timber Ridge area. Slow roll will affect traffic on the ramp from I-64 eastbound to I-81 northbound.

Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews tree trimming around signs, removing debris, repairing mile marker signs, cleaning bridge ditches. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 190 to 196, northbound – Mobile lane closures for sealing of rumble strips. Thursday night, August 21, from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. and Sunday night, August 23, from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 190 to 198, northbound and southbound – Slow-roll lane closures Sunday morning, August 24, from approximately 6:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. for installation of fiber optic cable over I-81 in the Timber Ridge area (exit 195). Slow rolls will take place simultaneously on I-81 northbound from mile marker 190.8 and southbound from mile marker 198.8. Exit 195 southbound on-ramp from Route 11 will be controlled by flaggers.

Mile marker 193 to 190, southbound.  Nighttime left lane closures, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., for guardrail upgrades and shoulder paving. Estimated completion Jan. 15, 2015.

Exit 200, northbound – Alternating lane closures for on-ramp and off-ramp paving. Sunday through Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completion December 2014.

Mile marker 205 to 200, including ramp 200A, southbound – Alternating lane closures for pavement work. Mondayto Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. each day.  Estimated completion December 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 56 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 130 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 252 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation. Patching, pipe replacement, brush cutting and ditch work with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 623 (Fredericksburg Road) – Partial road closure for replacement of two bridges east of Route 621 in Rockbridge Baths area.  One bridge is located 0.25 mile east of Route 621 (Farmhouse Road) and the second bridge is located 0.5 mile east of Route 621. Estimated completion of both bridges Aug. 29, 2014.  Detours:  Eastbound follow Route 602 (Turkey Hill Road) north and Route 39 (Maury River Road) west back to Route 623.  Westbound traffic will follow Route 39 east and Route 602 south back to Route 623.

(NEW) Route 717 (Goose Creek Road) – Road closed August 27 to September 11 from 0.6 mile north of Route 719 (Davis Road) to 0.9 mile west of Route 721 (Finley Road) for bridge replacement.  Detour using Route 613 (Ridge Road) to Route 721 (Finley Road) to Route 606 (Raphine Road).

Route 780 (Brattons Run) and Route 850 (W. Midland Trail) – Flaggers and signs for single, alternating lane closures August 23 to August 29, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. – Soil testing for future bridge work over Brattons Run.

(NEW) Various Roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation. Patching, pipe replacement, brush cutting and ditching with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 250 (Lantz Mountain area) – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for pipe replacement.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Various roads – Mowing and brush cutting with a mobile operation.  Patching with flagger control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 600 (Upper Backcreek Road), Route 607 (Big Valley Road), Route 640 (Wimer Mountain Road) – Flagger traffic control at various locations for pipe replacements. Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Various roads – Mowing and brush cutting with a mobile operation.  Patching and ditch work with flagger control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(UPDATE) Mile marker 87, westbound – Shoulder closure for bridge work over I-81at mile marker 222, southbound.  Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Sept. 12, 2014.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews trimming around signs, removing debris, repairing  mile marker signs and cleaning ditches and slopes. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 211 to 206, southbound – Alternating lane closures for nighttime pavement work. Monday to Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completion December 2014.

(NEW) Mile marker 213.3 (Exit 213 Greenville) – Shoulder closure Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. as needed for bridge work over Route 11. Estimated completion Sept. 26, 2014.

(NEW) Mile marker 215 – Right shoulder closure Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. as needed for bridge work over Route 694. Estimated completion Sept. 26, 2014.

Mile marker 220 – Shoulder closures as needed at exit 220 for bridge work at Route 262 (Woodrow Wilson Parkway) overpass off I-81.  Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Aug. 29, 2014.

(UPDATE) Exit 221, northbound and southbound bridges over ramp to I-64 – Shoulder closure Monday to Thursday, 6:30 to 7 p.m. for bridge work. Sept.12, 2014.

(NEW) Mile marker 227 to 228, northbound – Single lane and shoulder closures for bridge inspection over Middle River.  August 26, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Mile marker 228 to 238, northbound – Alternating lane closures for nighttime pavement work and guardrail upgrades, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion.  Estimated completion Dec. 24, 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 11– Lane and shoulder closures as needed for bridge work on I-81 over Route 11 in the exit 213 area. Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Aug. 26, 2014.

Route 11– Shoulder closures as needed for bridge work at Route 262 overpass (Woodrow Wilson Parkway, eastbound).  Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Aug. 29, 2014.

Route 42, south – Mowing with posted signs as alerts.  Monday – Friday, 7:30 a .m. to 3 p.m.

Route 250 – Traffic restricted to single 12-foot wide lane during Ramsey’s Draft bridge replacement.  Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Traffic controlled by temporary signal. Work zone 1.04 mile west of Route 716 to 1.12 miles west of Route 716.  Estimated completion April 30, 2015.

Route 252 – Mowing with posted signs as alerts.  Monday – Friday, 7:30 a .m. to 3 p.m.

Route 252 – Alternating lane closures as needed for pavement work from just south of Route 701 to 0.36 miles north of Route 802. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion December 2014.

Route 254 – Mowing with posted signs as alerts.  Monday – Friday, 7:30 a .m. to 3 p.m.

UPDATE) Route 262 (Woodrow Wilson Parkway) – Shoulder closures over I-81at mile marker 220, northbound and southbound,  and over Route 11 at 0.72 mile to Route 613 –

Bridge work, Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Sept. 12, 2014.

Route 262 and ramps at Route 252, Route 703Route 254 and Route 250 – Alternating lane closures with flagger operations for pavement work starting 0.28 mile west of Route 11, eastbound to Route 252. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Route 340 – Right shoulder closures as needed at various locations, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for fiber optic installation from Route 11/Greenville to the Augusta/Rockingham County Line. Estimated completion Dec. 31, 2014.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 654 (White Hill Road) – Bridge work affecting shoulder at exit 217 over I-81.  Monday to Friday. Estimated completion Sept. 12, 2014.

(UPDATE) Route 655 (Walnut Hills Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure at I-81 overpass for bridge work.  Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Sept. 12, 2014.

(NEW) Route 694 – Flagger controlled lane closure, Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. as needed for I-81 bridge work over Route 694. Estimated completion Sept. 26, 2014.

(NEW) Route 703 (Hewitt Road, near Swoope)  – Road closed August 27 from 7 a.m. to approximately 1 p.m. for crews to unload steel truss bridge for bridge replacement project over the Middle River.  Work zone is 0.99 mile to Route 876 (Swoope Road) to 1.62 miles from Route 708 (Miss Phillips Road).  North side detour:  Route 703 (Hewitt Road) to Route 876 (Swoope Road) to Route 254 (Parkersburg Turnpike). South side detour: Route 703 (Hewitt Road) to Route 708 (Miss Phillips Road) to Route 254 (Parkersburg Turnpike).

Route 747 – Spot leveling work with flaggers at various locations. Monday – Friday, 7:30 a .m. to 3 p.m.

Route 854 – Alternating lane closures for paving and pavement marking from Route 11 to Route 1901, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completion Dec. 20, 2014.

Route 940 (Dick Huff Lane) and Route 941 (Government Center Lane) – Alternating lane closures for daytime pavement work. Estimated completion Sept. 10, 2014.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal, hand cleaning ditches and mowing operations. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Exit 251, northbound and southbound – On- and off-ramps restricted to 10-foot widths for overnight guardrail installation. Estimated project completion Oct. 3, 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – On- and off-ramps restricted to 10-foot widths for overnight guardrail installation. Estimated project completion Oct. 3, 2014.

Route 11 from intersection of I-81 exit 251 to Route 259 – Reflective pavement marker replacement/inspection in both directions. Work will occur mostly during daylight hours utilizing a mobile work zone. Estimated completion September 15.

Route 33 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 253 (Port Republic Road) Lane and shoulder closures through August 29 as needed for construction work between Stone Spring Road and Ridgedale Road.

Route 253 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 340 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 726 (Stone Spring Road) – Road closed through August 29 between Port Republic Road and Peach Grove Avenue for intersection improvements.  Follow posted detours: Eastbound traffic will detour north on Peach Grove Avenue and east on Port Republic Road back to Route 726.  Westbound traffic will detour west on Port Republic Road and south on Peach Grove Avenue back to Route 726.

Route 726 (Stone Spring Road and Peach Grove Avenue) – Motorists should be alert for shoulder closures and occasional flagger controlled lane closures on the Route 280 Southeast Connector project. Work zone extends from 0.51 mile east of Harrisonburg city limits to 0.15 mile west of city limits. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2014.

Route 745 (Martin Miller Road) – Pipe work from Route 257 (Ottobine Road) to Route 744 (Dry Hollow Road). Periodic, short duration closures, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Follow posted detours.

(NEW) Route 813 (Lindhaven Road) – Road closed August 25 and traffic will be diverted to stop and proceed detour around bridge replacement project –  0.03 mile west of Route 612 (Bowers Lane) and 2 miles east of Route 611 (Supin Lick Road). Estimated completion Sept. 19, 2014.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading. Mowing, litter pickup and pavement repairs as needed.

 

 

PAGE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 211, eastbound – Possible right shoulder/turn lane closures 0.27 mil east of Route 644 (Big Oak Road) as need for utility installation.  Estimated completion August 29.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 602 (Maryland Avenue, Town of Shenandoah) – Flagger traffic control at various locations for milling, paving and line marking. Work zone from Route 683 (1st Street) to 0.23 mile north of Route 711 (Comer Lane). Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 702 (8th Street, Town of Shenandoah) – Flagger traffic control at various locations for paving.  Work zone from Route 602 (Maryland Avenue) to Route 1006 (Denver Avenue).  Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 264 to 300, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal, hand mowing, cleaning paved ditches and slopes.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 265 to 275, northbound – Nighttime right lane at various locations and on-ramp at exit 264 closed August 24, 10 p.m. to 9 a.m.  Detour to Route 11 will be in place.  Nighttime right lane closures at various locations August 25 to 28, 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. for milling and paving.  Estimated completion Oct. 3, 2014.

Mile marker 280 to 273, southbound.  Nighttime left lane closures, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., for guardrail upgrades and shoulder paving. Estimated completion Jan. 15, 2015.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 42 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 263 from Route 42 to 6.45 miles west of Route 42  – Reflective pavement marker replacement/inspection in both directions. Work will occur mostly during daylight hours utilizing a mobile work zone. Estimated completion September 15.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 760 (Water Street) – Flagger controlled traffic from Route 1403 to 0.30 mile east for bridge replacement over Stony Creek. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion June 2015.

(NEW) Various roads – Pipe replacements, mowing, dust control applications. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal and cleaning paved ditches. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday, Thursday and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 7 from Winchester County Line to Clarke County Line – Reflective pavement marker replacement/inspection in both directions. Work will occur mostly during daylight hours utilizing a mobile work zone. Estimated completion September 15.

Route 11 – Line painting in both directions. Work will occur mostly during daylight hours utilizing a mobile work zone. Work will be completed by the August 30.

Route 50 from end of four-lane to Route 688 – Reflective pavement marker replacement/inspection in both directions. Work will occur mostly during daylight hours utilizing a mobile work zone. Work will be completed by the August 30.

Route 277 from Route 11 to Route 522 – Reflective pavement marker replacement/inspection in both directions. Work will occur mostly during daylight hours utilizing a mobile work zone. Work will be completed by the August 30.

Route 522 from Winchester County Line to West Virginia Line – Reflective pavement marker replacement/inspection in both directions. Work will occur mostly during daylight hours utilizing a mobile work zone. Work will be completed by the August 30.

Route 522 – Shoulder closures northbound lane for the installation of fiber optic conduit between Route 679 and the West Virginia Line.  Estimated completion is Oct. 1, 2014.

 

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 671 (Shockeyville Road) – Road closed from 0.86 mile west of Route 690 (Howards Chapel Road) to 1.2 miles west of Howards Chapel Road for bridge replacement.  Estimated completion evening of August 29. Detours: Westbound traffic use Route 690 west to Route 600 (Brush Creek Road) northwest to Route 692 (Pack Horse Road) then north to Route 671. Eastbound traffic use Route 692 south to Route 600, southeast to Route 690, then east to Route 671.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

 

CLARKE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Mowing. Monday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Pothole patching. Monday to Friday.

 

 

WARREN COUNTY

 

INTERSTATE 66

Mile marker 0 to 15, westbound and eastbound – Be alert for debris removal and cleaning paved ditches. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

INTERSTATE 81

No lane closures reported.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) – Bridge replacement work over Gooney Creek from 0.67 miles south of Route 605 to 0.35 miles north of Route 605.  Traffic controlled by flaggers Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists should expect minor delays. Estimated completion October 2015.

Route 340/522 (North Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road), from Duck Street to 17th Street – Old South Fork bridge replacement and interchange modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road) and 340/522.  Daily lane closures, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and nightly lane closures, 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., Monday through Friday.  Motorists are advised to allow more time in daily commutes. Estimated completion December 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 603 (Oregon Hollow Road) – Traffic controlled by flaggers Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for reconstruction of Route 603 from Route 647 (Dismal Hollow Road) to 0.5 miles north. Estimated completion December 2014.

Route 613 (Indian Hollow Road) – Traffic controlled by flaggers Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for replacement of low water bridge over South Fork of Shenandoah River. Work zone from Route 628 to 0.35 miles north. Estimated completion October 2014.

(NEW) ROUTE 632 (Fetchett Road) – New 12-foot width restriction begins 8 a.m. August 25 for installation of box culverts over Broad Run.  Work zone is 0.019 mile south of Route 633 (Broad Run Road).  Estimated completion September 12.

(NEW) Various roads – Patching and mowing.  Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes.

Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
