VDOT: Roads report for Augusta County, Rockbridge County, Rockingham County

VDOT has sent out its updated schedule for road construction and maintenance for the week of Oct. 20-24.

Augusta County


Interstate 81

  • *NEW* Mile marker 205 to 208, northbound – Overnight right lane closures for installation of traffic sensors, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights. *UPDATE* Mile marker 222 to 227, northbound and southbound – Overnight left-lane closures northbound for pavement work and barrier wall removal, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights. Single-lane traffic on southbound I-81 ramp to I-64 eastbound at exit 221 through November 2025. Northbound and southbound shoulder closures 24/7 through spring 2026. Traffic restrictions are for I-81 widening project. Work zone speed limit 60 miles an hour.
  • *NEW* Mile marker 227 to 237, northbound and southbound – Overnight single-lane closures for pavement marking, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights.
  • *NEW* Mile marker 224 to 226, northbound and southbound– Overnight single lane closures for bridge inspection, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday night (October 18).
  • Mile marker 232 to 237, northbound and southbound – Brief closures for installation of overhead utility lines, 6 a.m. to 12 noon Sunday (October 19). 
    Mile marker 234 to 237, northbound and southbound – Left shoulder closures 24/7. Work zone speed limit 60 miles per hour. Traffic restrictions are for construction of I-81 truck-climbing lanes.

*NEW* Route 11 (Commerce Road, Staunton) – Southbound right shoulder closures between Route 262 (Woodrow Wilson Parkway) and Staunton city limits for traffic engineering, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.

*NEW* Route 42 – Mobile traffic control for pavement marking between the Rockbridge County line and Rockingham County line, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

*NEW* Route 262 (Woodrow Wilson Parkway) – Southbound overnight right shoulder closures between I-81 southbound ramps at Exit 225 and Route 11 (Commerce Road) for traffic engineering, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Route 611 (Dooms Crossing Road) – Temporary traffic signal in operation 24/7 between Route 865 (Rockfish Road) and Route 340 (East Side Highway) for maintenance to bridge over South River. Estimated completion Friday.

Route 612 (Laurel Hill Road, Verona) – Occasional flagger traffic control and westbound turn-lane closures at Route 901 (Mill Place Parkway) for intersection improvements, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays through August 1, 2026.

Route 693 (Cedar Green Road) – Temporary traffic signal in operation 24/7 between Route 703 (Buttermilk Spring Road) and Route 703 (Hebron Road) for maintenance to bridge over railway. Estimated completion October 28.

Route 834 (Hickory Hill Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 631 (Ladd Road) and Route 640 (Goose Creek Road) for waterline installation, 7:30 to 4 p.m. through April 30, 2026.

Route 901 (Mill Place Parkway, Verona) – Occasional flagger traffic control near Route 612 (Laurel Hill Road) for intersection and roadway improvements, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays through August 1, 2026.

Various roads – Mobile traffic control for mowing operations. Flagger traffic control for drainage work, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pavement patching and brush cutting, 7:30 to 3 p.m. weekdays.

Rockbridge County


Interstate 64

  • *NEW* Mile marker 56 to 57, eastbound – Right shoulder closures for shoulder repairs, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday.

Interstate 81

  • *NEW* Mile marker 183 to 184, northbound – Left shoulder closures for shoulder repairs, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday.
  • Mile marker 188 to 180, southbound – Overnight single lane closures for paving operations, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday to Thursday nights.
  • *NEW* Mile marker 204 to 206, northbound – Overnight right lane and right shoulder closure for installation of traffic sensors, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights.

*UPDATE* Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Southbound overnight single-lane closures between Route 752 (Hunter Hill Road) and Route 631 (Old Buena Vista Road/Furrs Mill Road) for paving operations, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. through the night of November 6.

Route 130 (Rockbridge Road/Wert Faulkner Highway) – Flagger traffic control between Route 501 (Glasgow Highway) and Route 860 (Douglas Way) for fiber installation, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for pipe replacement, ditch work, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pavement patching and brush cutting, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

Route 608 (Forge Road)– Flagger traffic control between Route 680 (Falling Spring Road) and Route 679 (Lone Jack Road) for fiber installation, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for grading, pipe replacement, ditch work, tree removal, pavement patching, shoulder repairs and brush cutting, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

Rockingham County


Interstate 81

  • *NEW* Mile marker 237 to 240, northbound and southbound – Overnight single-lane closures for pavement marking, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights. 
    Mile marker 237 to 247, northbound and southbound – Brief closures for installation of overhead utility lines, 6 a.m. to 12 noon Sunday (October 19).
  • Mile marker 237 to 238, northbound and southbound – Left shoulder closures 24/7. Work zone speed limit 60 miles per hour. Traffic restrictions are for construction of I-81 truck-climbing lanes
    *UPDATED* Mile marker 242 to 248, northbound and southbound – Alternating lane closures, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., and shoulder closures 24/7. Traffic restrictions are for Route 33 bridge and interchange project with completion expected in fall 2026.
  • *NEW* Exit 247, northbound and southbound – Multiple on- and off-ramps closedfor interchange reconstruction, 6 p.m. Monday through 8 a.m. Friday. Follow posted detour.

*UPDATE* Route 33 (East Market Street, Harrisonburg) – Full eastbound and westbound closure between Carlton Street and Linda Lane/Burgess Road for bridge construction, 6 p.m. Monday through 8 a.m. Friday. Multiple ramps to and from I-81 also closed. Follow posted detours. Single-lane closures at other times as needed. Shoulder closures 24/7. Traffic restrictions are for bridge replacements and interchange improvements with expected completion in September 2026.

*NEW* Route 33 (Spotswood Trail/Rawley Pike) – Mobile traffic control between the Greene County line and West Virginia state line for pavement marking, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Friday and 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday nights.

*NEW* Route 276 (Cross Keys Road) – Mobile traffic control for pavement marking between the Augusta County line and Route 33 (Spotswood Trail), 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Route 644 (Resort Drive) – Closed between Silverstone Lane and Woodstone Drive for paving operations and turn-lane construction, through about October 31. Follow posted detour.

Various roads – Mobile traffic control for mowing operations. Flagger traffic control for pipe replacement, ditch work, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pavement patching and brush cutting, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.
