Replacement work begins this month on the Route 250 bridge over Whiskey Creek in Augusta County. The location is just east of the intersection with Route 722 (Vinegar Hill Road) near the community of Churchville.
The existing Route 250 bridge was built in 1929 with two 11-foot travel lanes and narrow shoulders. The new bridge will be constructed in the same location with two 12-foot travel lanes and 10-foot shoulders.
Starting Monday, June 20, occasional lane or shoulder closures may be required as contractors relocate utilities and build a temporary bridge and roadway approaches just north of the existing bridge. Traffic is scheduled to detour onto the two-lane temporary bridge starting in early fall 2016. The work zone speed limit will be 25 miles an hour. All work is weather permitting.
On June 1, 2016, the Virginia Department of Transportation awarded a $2,793,131.88 construction contract to Fairfield-Echols LLC of Fishersville, Virginia.
