VDOT: Local road work, maintenance for the first week of November

VDOT has updated its schedule for road work and maintenance in Augusta County, Rockbridge County and Rockingham County the week of Nov. 3-7.

The VDOT Customer Service Center operates 24/7 to help roadway users report potential hazards, make service requests or get information related to Virginia’s transportation network.

Augusta County


Interstate 64

  • *NEW* Exit 99, eastbound and westbound – Right shoulder closures for sign work, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Interstate 81

  • Mile marker 204 to 208, northbound – Overnight right lane closures for installation of traffic sensors, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights.
  • Mile marker 221 to 227, northbound and southbound – Single-lane traffic on southbound I-81 ramp to I-64 eastbound at exit 221 through Nov. 2025. Northbound and southbound shoulder closures 24/7 through spring 2026. Traffic restrictions are for I-81 widening project. Work zone speed limit 60 miles an hour.
  • Mile marker 234 to 238, northbound and southbound – Left shoulder closures 24/7. Work zone speed limit 60 miles per hour. Traffic restrictions are for construction of I-81 truck-climbing lanes.

*NEW* Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Northbound right shoulder closure from Route 616 (Dam Town Road/Fort Defiance Road) to Route 925 (James Crawford Lane) for traffic engineering, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

*NEW* Route 11 (Commerce Road, Staunton) – Southbound right shoulder closure from Staunton city line to Route 262 (Woodrow Wilson Parkway) for traffic engineering, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

*NEW* Route 254 (Parkersburg Turnpike) – Eastbound right shoulder closure between Route 876 (Swoope Road) and Route 42 (Buffalo Gap Highway) for utility work, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 4 through Dec. 2.

*NEW* Route 256 (Weyers Cave Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 772 (Sulfur Pump Road) and Route 865 (Rockfish Road) for bridge maintenance, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Nov 14.

Route 612 (Laurel Hill Road, Verona) – Occasional flagger traffic control and westbound turn-lane closures at Route 901 (Mill Place Parkway) for intersection improvements, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays through August 2026.

*UPDATE* Route 693 (Cedar Green Road) – Temporary traffic signal in operation 24/7 between Route 703 (Buttermilk Spring Road) and Route 703 (Hebron Road) for maintenance to bridge over railway. Estimated completion 5 p.m. Tuesday.

*NEW* Route 718 (Stokesville Road) – Flagger traffic control from Route 730 (River Road) to the dead end for bridge maintenance, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Nov 14.

*NEW* Route 742/745 (Mount Pisgah Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 742 (Leaport Road) and Route 742 (Lebanon Road) for bridge maintenance, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Nov. 14.

Route 834 (Hickory Hill Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 631 (Ladd Road) and Route 640 (Goose Creek Road) for waterline installation, 7:30 to 4 p.m. through April 2026.

Route 901 (Mill Place Parkway, Verona) – Occasional flagger traffic control near Route 612 (Laurel Hill Road) for intersection and roadway improvements, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays through August 2026.

Various roads – Mobile traffic control for mowing operations. Flagger traffic control for drainage work, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pavement patching and brush cutting, 7:30 to 3 p.m. weekdays.

Rockbridge County


Interstate 64

  • *NEW* Mile marker 54 to 55, westbound – Right shoulder closures for sign work, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • *NEW* Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound – Right shoulder closures for brush cutting, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday.

Interstate 81

  • *NEW* Mile marker 177 to 181, northbound and southbound – Overnight single lane closures for bridge inspection, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday night through Wednesday night.
  • *NEW* Mile marker 191 to 195, northbound and southbound – Overnight single lane closures for bridge inspection, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday night.
  • *NEW* Mile marker 202 to 205, northbound and southbound – Overnight single lane closures for bridge inspection, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday night through Wednesday night.

Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Southbound overnight single lane closures for paving operations between Route 1017 (Jackson Heights Drive) to Route 631 (Buena Vista Road/Furrs Mill Road), 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Thursday night.

Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Single lane closures for paving operations between Route 717 (McClung Road) and Route 1017 (Jackson Heights Drive), 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Nov. 14.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for pipe replacement, ditch work, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pavement patching and brush cutting, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

  • Mile marker 242 to 248, northbound and southbound – Alternating lane closures, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., and shoulder closures 24/7. Traffic restrictions are for Route 33 bridge and interchange projectwith completion expected in fall 2026.
  • *UPDATE* Mile marker 249 to 253, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures including along exit 251 southbound off-ramps for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

*UPDATE* Route 33 (East Market Street, Harrisonburg) – Single-lane closures as needed. Shoulder closures 24/7. Traffic restrictions are for bridge replacements and interchange improvements with expected completion in September 2026.

*NEW* Route 42 (Harpine Highway) – Flagger traffic control between Route 1415 (Early Drive) and Route 1432 (5th Street) for bridge maintenance, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 3 through Nov 27.

*NEW* Route 253 (Port Republic Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 680 (Oak Ridge Road) and Route 689 (Shen Lake Drive/Spaders Church Road) for utility work, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Nov 27.

Route 644 (Resort Drive) – Closed between Silverstone Lane and Woodstone Drive for paving operations and turn-lane construction, through Oct. 31. Follow posted detour.

Route 682 (Friedens Church Road) – Flagger traffic control from I-81 ramp to Route 995 (Koiner Ford Road) for shoulder repairs, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

*NEW* Route 731 (Community Center Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 750 (Nazarene Church Road) and Route 257 (Briery Branch Road) for bridge maintenance, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Nov 21.
