VDOT encourages Sesquicentennial attendees to follow event signage and public service announcements on the Highway Advisory Radio

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) encourages motorists driving to and from the Appomattox National Historical Park (NHP), Museum of the Confederacy (MOC), and reenactment battle activities at the Appomattox Commerce and Business Center (ACBC) from Wednesday, April 8, thru Sunday, April 12, to follow recommended traffic patterns as posted on signs and message boards.

VDOT and the National Park Service (NPS) will place signs and changeable message boards throughout the region to assist travelers. Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) will also broadcast traffic information over Channel1610 AM and 530 AM. Vehicular traffic will be heavy along Route 460, 24, 26 and 656 for several miles approaching the Town of Appomattox.

• From Lynchburg, motorists traveling east on Route 460 toward the event activities should use the right lane for access to the reenactment battles at the ACBC, Museum of the Confederacy (MOC) and Appomattox National Historical Park (NHP).  Thru traffic should use the left lane until reaching the Route 460 Business interchange, east of the Town of Appomattox.  Traffic in the right lane can expect delays and will need to be alert for stopped vehicles.
• From Farmville, motorists traveling west on Route 460 toward the event activities should use the right lane for access to the MOC, NHP and reenactments (ACBC).  Thru traffic should use the left lane until reaching the Route 460 Business interchange, west of the Town of Appomattox.
• From Dillwyn, motorists traveling west on Route 24 toward the event activities should watch for slowed/stopped traffic, signs providing information to shuttle locations, and other traffic announcements.

Traffic following Route 26 should watch for signs and message boards to access events.

Motorists should expect heavy merging traffic each day throughout the event at on ramps from the Routes 24 and 26 interchanges as activities close

Those attending the activities should closely follow directional information and plan to arrive early and expect heavy traffic and delays.
