I would not want to be North Carolina right now, getting set for a 6-11 matchup in Greenville, S.C., with a VCU team that has won 16 of its last 17.
But then, I don’t want, either, to be VCU, having to play what will basically be a road game.
Seriously, how did UNC, as a six seed, get that kind of treatment from the NCAA?
Dumb question, I know.
The teams will face off on Thursday – time and TV to be determined.
I had assumed the Rams (27-7, average computer ranking: 38.4) would have been an at-large team if they had come up short in Sunday’s A-10 Tournament final with Dayton, but then, even with the automatic bid, they were still an 11 seed, so, maybe not.
The league’s regular-season champ, Saint Louis (27-5, ACR: 35.9), got a nine seed, and don’t have to play a blue blood in their backyard.
I’ll have a breakdown on the UNC-VCU game tomorrow.
