UVA basketball rises to #2 in AP, USA Today polls

uva basketballUVA basketball is ranked #2 in the national polls for the first time since, yes, Ralph Sampson.

Virginia (15-0, 3-0 ACC) picked up first-place votes in both the Associated Press and USA Today coaches polls. Kentucky (15-0) maintained the top spot in both polls after posting a pair of double-overtime wins over unranked SEC foes last week.

The Cavaliers moved up a spot after Duke (14-1, 2-1 ACC) lost at unranked N.C. State, 87-75, on Sunday.

Virginia defeated N.C. State, 61-51, in Charlottesville on Wednesday, then won at #12 Notre Dame, 62-56, on Saturday.

Notre Dame moved up a spot to #12 in the AP poll after the loss.

Three other ACC teams are ranked in the national pollsDuke at #4, Louisville (#6 AP, #7 coaches), and North Carolina (#15 AP, #16 coaches).

ODU (13-2) dropped from the polls after losing 72-65 at Western Kentucky on Saturday.
