United Way announces funding grants

The United Way of Greater Augusta impact funding to local program and services for 2012-2013 will be over $575,000 in direct dollar funding, the organization announced on Wednesday.

The Citizen Investment Review Team and the Board Awards Team work together with the use of an impact model and community needs data to see that donor funds are directed to community needs and towards programs that have quinatifable outcomes to address the needs.

Organizations are evaluated on their capacity to manage programs they request funding and those which have demonstrated the ability to improve education, income and health in the Greater Augusta region.

The awards funding is as follows:

American Red Cross Disaster relief $8,000.00

Augusta Free Dental Clinic Low cost dental services $20,000.00

Blue Ridge Area Food Back pack program $10,000.00

Blue Ridge Legal Legal Services $25,000.00

Boys and Girls Club Project LEARN $20,000.00

Boy Scouts Boys and Girls Club troop $4,500.00

CASA Advocacy $18,000.00

CASA Foster Children transition to adulthood $3,000.00

Community Child Care Low cost child care $30,000.00

Crossroads Rehabilitation after TBI $7,500.00

Daily Living Center Day care for older adults $20,000.00

Dolly Parton Imagination Library Early childhood literacy $36,000.00

FACE Anti-bullying in schools $2,600.00

Fairfield Center Mediation services $15,000.00

Financial Stability Ctr (project) Financial Mgt/Referral $40,000.00

FRRC #2 (QCCI) Certifications for childcare providers $1,938.00

FRRC #3 (STAR) In-home child developmental services $1,000.00

Girl Scouts troop in low income area $4,500.00

Greater Augusta Volunteer Center Regional Volunteer Recruitment and Placement $10,000.00

Family Connection Parenting for age 0-5 $10,000.00

LEARN English and Reading tutoring for adults $3,000.00

MHAA Mental health advocacy $4,000.00

Office on Youth Parenting classes for at risk adolescents $15,000.00

Office on Youth teen pregnancy prevention programming $10,000.00

Rebuilding Together Low Income Home renovation/safety $10,000.00

Salvation Army Emergency funds $15,000.00

Staunton Y-Camp summer day camp $10,000.00

Staunton Y-Teen Center Safe place for teens $3,000.00

Talking Book Center Audio books for elderly/disabled $4,000.00

The Arc Augusta Adults with disability advocacy $1,000.00

The Arc Augusta Adults with disability scholarship $15,000.00

Valley Childrens forensic interviews $25,000.00

Valley Hope Low fee counseling $35,000.00

Valley Program for Aging Services Meals on Wheels $20,000.00

Vector Transportation for disabled employees $23,000.00

WALT, LEARN & Casa Bilingual Literacy and Computer Skills $5,000.00

WALT Computer literacy $11,500.00

Waynesboro Y-Water Swim lessons for disadvantaged youth $5,000.00

Waynesboro Y Dry Sports teams for disadvantaged youth $5,000.00

Youth Venture Youth changemaking leadership Program $1,000.00

Designated by donors to other programs not listed above $68,058.00

Total Awards $575,596.00

The United Way also anticipates based on last years numbers to leverage over $425,000 through the Familywize Prescription drug discount program.
