A 13-year-old boy died Saturday in Corolla in the Outer Banks marking the second death in one week at the popular vacation destination.

Currituck County Fire and EMS responded to the distress call at approximately 12:40 p.m.

The U.S. Coast Guard was called initially for assistance, and it searched by air with a helicopter until after 3 p.m., according to multiple reports.

The boy’s body was recovered Saturday afternoon.

The boy’s name or where the family is from has not been released.

Red flags were up Sunday in the Outer Banks due to rough and choppy waters.

Yellow or red flags are displayed when there is a danger of rip currents; in some areas of OBX, a red flag means no swimming is allowed.

A 72-year-old man from Florence, S.C., died July 20 in the water in Buxton in a kayaking accident, according to an OBX news report.
